In some parts of the world, such as Asia, almonds, for example, are soaked overnight and peeled the next morning before being consumed. For example, almonds can sit in water for about 12 hours, while others like walnuts, pecans, pine nuts, or hazelnuts only need to be soaked for 8 hours. Ayurveda suggests eating four to six almonds soaked for six to eight hours and eating them the next morning at breakfast or with milk/honey. Not just almonds, it's best to soak all nuts and seeds before eating them.

Not just almonds, it's best to soak all nuts and seeds before eating them. This is where the benefits of almonds and soaked walnuts, among other healthy nuts, come into play as they help the body maintain sufficient nutrients by helping the body replenish itself. Especially when almonds are soaked before eating, they help maintain energy levels, boost heart health and overall immunity, and provide numerous health benefits. The benefits of soaked almonds are endless; they aid digestion, improve heart health, promote weight loss, and are a major source of antioxidants.

In addition, you can stop aging by eating soaked (not bitter) sweet almonds, as the phytochemical antioxidants they contain - phenols, flavonoids, proanthocyanidins and phytosterols - fight free radicals, protecting body cells from damage. The antioxidants and vitamin E found in almonds act as emollients and lubricants for your skin, leaving it soft and supple over time.

Simply put, peeling almonds reduces their irritating Pitta properties. Almond skins are difficult to digest, which is why Ayurveda recommends soaking almonds and peeling the skins to improve the digestibility of the almonds. When you eat almonds without soaking or peeling the skin, it aggravates Pitta in the blood.

Therefore, Ayurveda recommends soaking almonds in warm water overnight and then peeling before eating. The best way to get the most health benefits from almonds is to soak them in water in the evening and eat them in the morning after peeling them. While topical skin care products can contain harmful chemicals and ingredients, soaked almonds help skin achieve its desired results naturally.

They can help suppress your cravings and thus support your weight loss diet. Almonds are rich in vitamin E, which helps reduce the signs of aging and nourishes the skin. Vitamin E has some antioxidant properties that are known to block free radicals in the body, which can play an important role in the aging process. Almonds are a friend of the heart. Almonds reduce acid levels, promote protein digestion, and help regulate the release of hydrochloric acid from the stomach.

Almonds are easy to chew and digest, and the health benefits of almonds are enhanced by soaking, as soaked almonds release the enzyme lipase, which aids in the digestion process. Soaked almonds aid digestion by releasing lipase, an enzyme needed to properly digest fats in food, especially if you like to eat fried foods like paratha, pakora, and samosa often.

Rich in vitamin E, almonds help protect the skin from free radicals known for their known skin-damaging properties. As an excellent source of folic acid, soaked almonds help increase the likelihood of natural childbirth and promote healthy growth of the baby in the womb, preventing risks such as neural tubes and congenital heart defects.

Soaking also makes the almonds more digestible, even for people with sensitive digestive systems. Soaking walnuts before eating also helps cleanse the colon by removing harmful toxins. After soaking, you can also dry the walnuts in the oven over low heat and make them crispy.

After soaking the nuts, the seed rind or skin peels off much more easily. If you want to peel the skin, blanch the soaked almonds in warm water to make peeling easier. When the skin is pliable and slips off, the almond is tender and bites easily.

If you have a sensitive stomach, digestive issues, or gluten sensitivity, soaking walnuts can make them easier to digest. Studies have shown that nuts such as almonds have a tough texture and are difficult for your stomach to break down during digestion.

Almond peel contains tannins that prevent the absorption of nutrients; thus defeating the purpose of eating them. The large amount of magnesium contained in them promotes hair growth. Weight management expert Dr. Gargi Sharma suggests eating almonds by soaking them in water overnight. The mixture of magnesium and other nutrients found in almonds helps prevent hair loss and dandruff.

Not only will your skin glow as the fiber in soaked almonds will ease the bowels, its elasticity will also improve thanks to the antioxidants and vitamin E it contains. In addition, one of the benefits of water-soaked almonds is that it helps remove impurities such as tannin and phytic acid. However, nutrients, especially minerals, are not absorbed efficiently by the body if you eat raw almonds due to two types of inhibitory or anti-nutritional chemicals found in the almond skin.

Modern science has discovered that the brown shell of the almond contains tannic acid, which is a nutrient inhibitor. In fact, research has shown that the body can retain 60% more magnesium and 20% more zinc when phytic corrosion is removed.8 In addition, soaking makes almonds less difficult to process, despite people with sensitive stomach structures. Ayurveda, for example, recommends soaking and peeling almonds to more easily access their nutrients and make them less bitter.

The problem, however, is that flavonoids, compounds that can help lower body lipids and improve gut health, are found in abundance in almond peels. Problems such as indigestion, nosebleeds and other related inconveniences can occur if almond peel is consumed in excess.

Soaking removes enzyme inhibitors that coat nuts and seeds, protecting them. To render these enzymes ineffective, we can add a small amount of salt to the water before soaking the nuts and seeds. By soaking nuts and seeds before eating, we mimic nature by neutralizing these toxic growth inhibitors, releasing the natural enzymes and energy they contain.

A highlight of Ayurveda, soaking nuts and seeds in warm water provides added benefits. Ayurvedic doctors believe that eating soaked almonds first thing in the morning can help regulate stomach acid. Ayurveda experts believe that sprinkling almonds before eating anything else can help relieve stomach acid.

Since this means you need to consume more per day, you should soak or toast the almonds to remove the phytate load and avoid nutrient deficiencies. Some experts suggest spraying almonds for 18 hours in such cases. Supplements, especially minerals, however, cannot be successfully retained in the body when raw almonds are consumed due to two types of synthetic substances inhibiting or hostile to the additives in almond skins. Because almonds balance vata when you eat them, almond oil pacifies vata when applied topically.
